Summary of a Life

Gazing through the dingy window.
Hiding from the light.
Lurking in the darkness.
Fleeing through the night.

Blocking out the coming dawn.
Preying on the moon.
Searching for the source of life.
Serenading through my tune.

Suffocating the life within.
A vice clenched tightly down.
Squeezing out the frantic breaths.
Slumping shoulders with every pound.

Blood shot eyes pulled tight with strain,
from searching for an end.
The blackness that consumes my mind.
Consoling like a friend.

I surrender to the heavy load.
Crushing me in stone.
Seeking out my arteries.
With each resounding tone.

I vibrate with the coming doom.
An end so bittersweet.
I close my eyes with one last breath.
My maker, I've prepared to meet.

In the emptiness, I find the light.
Through the final blow, I'm free.
The veil is lifted from my face.
I allow myself to see.

Reins placed gently in my hands,
wind whispers in my ear.
Of possibilities that wait.
A salvation that is near.

I turn my back on the familiar friend.
From the stench of drab despair.
Slipping out of my restraints.
A freedom that seems to dare.
